Your Chelsea History Lesson
THIS WEEK'S FIXTURE - -Chelsea Vs Spurs
So how many of you see this as revenge part 1 for
taking away our record of unbeaten games?
Looking at our FA Cup games against them we haven’t done too
well, in fact in 8 games we have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 4.
Our goals for and against are the same on 11.
The first time we played Spurs in the FA cup was way back in
1910 when we lost at home 0-1 in round 2.
The first time we beat them was a replay in Jan 64 winning
2-0 with goals from Murray and Tambling in front of a massive crowd
of 70,123. There was the
final in 67 but we leave that alone as we didn’t play too well that
day!!! The last time we
played them in the FA Cup was quite recent, Mar 2002, where we ran
out comfortable winners 4-0 with goals from Gallas, Le Saux, & a
brace from Eidur. We
later went on to the cup final at Cardiff to play Arsenal.

CHELSEA LEGEND:
This week’s legend is probably the most local boy ever to play for
Chelsea, it is of course Alan Hudson.Huddy was born in the King’s
Road and started out life on schoolboy forms, signing in 65 and
after serving his apprenticeship he signed Professional forms
in1968.Huddy made his debut in Feb 69 at Southampton (L 0-5).The
following season his gained a regular spot and almost immediately
shot to stardom. A gifted player with an uncanny ability to pass the
ball,ALA, Wilkins,Hoddle,Gullit.Huddy missed the 1970 Cup final due
to a foot injury but he returned to full fitness to help us win our
first European trophy a year later.Huddy was one of the most gifted
players of his era and was rewarded with just two England caps, a
prophetic return for such a gifted player, but the England manager
at the time was not into “flair” players as Tony Currie Rodney Marsh
& Don Rogers could all testify.Huddy played his last game for
Chelsea in Jan 74 in a 0-1 loss to Liverpool. One game I can
remember which Huddy will always be remembered for is the one where
he scored “that ghost goal” Vs Ipswich in Sept 70.Houseman went down
the left, beat two men and slipped the ball through to Huddy, who
cracked a low first time shot with his right foot. It hit the side
netting, rebounded off the stanchion back onto the pitch. The goalie
was about to take a goal kick but the ref pointed to the center spot
for a goal, pandemonium ensued but the goal was going to stand…The
story goes on and on but
I will write more on “the goal that never was” in another lesson. He
left to play for Stoke City for a fee of 240,000GBP.He had played a
total oh 189 games and scored a total of 14 goals.Huddy was a crowd
favorite for all his silky skills and can often been seen in or
around the shed bar chugging a few beers with the fans. Alan Hudson
a local boy done good and a true…CHELSEA LEGEND!
Until Next Time Then…….Cheerio! Tel
