THIS WEEKEND'S
FIXTURE - -Chelsea Vs Bolton Wanderers
This week’s game see’s
us entertain the nice side of Lancashire, with Sam’s boy’s coming
into town. We have played Bolton a total of 48 times of which we
have won just over 50% (25),we have drawn 11 & lost 12,our goals
tally isn’t to shabby either having scored 86 times against their
58.As for WLD’s, our heaviest loss was way back in Jan 18th
1922 when we lost 0-3 in front of a crowd of 15,000,as for draws the
highest draw(s) I could find are a total of 5
2-2’s with the middle one being In Feb 23 1957 with goals
from Nicholas & OG.As for wins we have had a bunch of 3-0’s ,a few
4-0’s but our best home wins Vs Bolton have both been fairly recent,
one being in 23rd
Dec 01 winning 5-1 and the most recent again a 5-1 thumping in
15th Oct 05,with goals coming from Lampard &
Drogba grabbing two a piece & Eidur getting the other
Recent Stats: I’m going back to the season when we sent Bolton
down, and that was 1997-98.Bolton had to win on the last day of
the season and hope that results went their way, but alas Morris
and Vialli sealed their fate on a glorious sunny spring like
day, In the end a draw would have kept them up and sent the blue
side of Beatle country down. We finished a decent 4th,
two points behind the red side of Beatle country. We had a
pretty decent record at Home, winning 13 drawing 2 and losing
4,our away record was dismal winning 7,drawing 1 and losing
11.We had some great results this season, including Barnsley(A)
0-6, Derby(H) 4-0 (Zola’s only hat trick), Spurs (A) 1-6,
Palace(H) 6-2 & Liverpool (H) 4-0. We used 29 different players
in the league this season with Flo getting the most games (16
starts 18 Sub),Him and Vialli were our top scorers with 11 a
piece in the league.
Memorable Game:
This game was early in the 78-79 seasons; it was our tenth game
of the season of which we had only won one of the previous nine.
Already it looked like it was going to be a long hard season for
.But this game was going to prove one of the few highlights .In
front of a meager crowd of just 19,879 Chelsea went about their
business and as in true Chelsea style we promptly went 0-3 down.
At the start of the second half things got a little bit brighter
when Swain made the score look a bit more respectable. With 12
minutes to go Langley latched on to a pass from R Wilkins to
make it look a lot better 2-3, with 3 minutes to go the
unimaginable happened and Walker got an equalizer 3-3.With
seconds remaining we attacked again and incredibly we scored a
desicive4th, this time courtesy of Big Sam Allardyce, the
whistle went and from 0-3 down to a 4-3 up, this was a truly
memorable game. After this game we only won another three games
all season. The thing is, considering it was so poorly attended
everyone knows about this game and I swear if you believed
everyone was there we should have had a crowd closer to 39,879.A
truly remarkable game.

CHELSEA LEGEND: This week’s ledge joined us after he had already been playing league football for close on 13 seasons. His name is Mickey Thomas. Although Mickey only played 54 games for us, with 11 goals but in that time he gathered a cult like following at the Bridge, probably more so for his shenanigans off the pitch than on it, but when he was on the pitch he was a tenacious midfielder who could play on the wing and in an emergency as a defender as well. He had an indifferent career before he came to Chelsea but quickly settled and scored a great goal in the 4-4 draw with Sheff Weds. He won 51 caps for Wales and a second division Championship medal with us. He left us for WBA Sept 85 much to the concern of a lot of Chelsea fans. He finished up where he first started, at Wrexham and in 1993 he served an 18 month jail sentence for handling counterfeit money. Some of the things that he got up to (mainly with Joey Jones) are legendary, that is one reason why Mickey Thomas will always be a …CHELSEA LEGEND!
